Quarter-Finals Day 6: FRANCE - SPAIN 59-66

Spain became the second semifinalists of Olympic Games basketball tournament. They prevailed against France in a dramatic battle in London. The victory set up Spain vs. Russia clash in the semifinal on Friday. Marc Gasol provided 14 points and 5 boards to lead the winners. France cleared off to a 22:15 late in the opening quarter. Rudy Fernandez capped the period with a jumper to cut the deficit to 5 points. Les Bleus maintained the lead throughout the second quarter. They recorded a 37:34 halftime advantage. But Spain tipped off the second half with seven points in a row to take a 41:37 lead. The teams then went neck and neck throughout the reminder of the third quarter. The lead changed hands for several times before France made it 53:51 with ten minutes remaining. Serg Ibaka and Llull gave Spin a 58:57 lead midway through the final stanza. Both teams then went scoreless for almost four minutes before Rudy Fernandez and Marc Gasol made it 62:57 for Spain. Calderon and Pau Gasol extended the lead to 9 points in the dying seconds and a jumper from Gelabale just sweetened the pill for France. Juan Carlos Navarro posted 12 points, Pau Gasol added 10 points in the victory. Boris Diaw and Tony Parker responded with 15 points each for France.
