Quarter-Finals Day 6: RUSSIA - LITHUANIA 83-74

Russia advanced into the semifinal stage of Olympic basketball tournament. David Blatt's team held off Lithuania in the first quarterfinal tonight. Andrei Kirilenko scored 19 points and 13 rebounds to lead the winners. Lithuania led just in the opening minutes. Valanciunas gave the Baltic team a 9:6 lead midway through the first term. But Russia quickly gained the advantage and used an 11:1 run to make it 17:10 at the first break. The gap grew at 9-point mark early in the second quarter. But Darius Songaila put Lithuania within 5 points at the interval. Jasikevicius committed several crucial turnovers early in the third term as Russia gained back a 9-point lead 41:32. Soon Viktor Khryapa made it 46:32 for Russia. But Lithuania remained in the game as Pocius and Kalnietis trimmed the deficit to 4 points with one quarter remaining 54:50. Rimantas Kaukenas put Lithuania within one at the start of the fourth frame but Russia used a 7:0 run to earn a 64:55 lead midway through the final stanza. Darius Songaila and Rimantas Kaukenas kept intrigue alive for some time but Andrei Kirilenko and Fridzon extended the gap 11 points and Russia secured the winning outcome at the end. Timofey Mozgov finished with 17 points, while Viktor Khryapa added 12 points, 8 assists and 6 boards for the winners. Rimantas Kaukenas answered with 19 points for Lithuania. Darius Songaila had 15 points in the loss.
