Russia clinched the Bronze medals at the Olympic basketball tournament. They snatched the win over Argentina in a heart-stopping thriller. Alexey Shved scored 25 points, distributed 7 assists and grabbed 5 rebounds to pace the winners. The lead changed hands for several times throughout close first quarter. Argentina eked out a 20:19 lead after ten minutes. Argentina stretched the lead to 6 points midway through the second quarter. However Russia answered with 12 points in a row to surge ahead. Alexey Shved capped the half with a three-pointer to make it 40:38 for Russia. The teams continued their roller-coaster action throughout the third term. The lead changed hands before Vitaliy Fridzon and Andrei Kirilenko gave David Blatts team a 56:48 lead. Russia soon gained an 11-point advantage 61:50. But the Latin American team answered with seven points in a row to narrow the margin at 4-point mark 57:61. Argentina quickly denied the deficit setting up a thrilling finale. The teams were tied at 74 with under 90 seconds remaining in regulation. Carlos Delfino scored just one free throw, while Vitaliy Fridzon sank both his attempts to put Russia in front with 56 seconds remaining. Emanuel Ginobili replied with a tough layup to pull Argentina in front 77:76. Alexey Shved answered with a three-pointer and then Vitaliy Fridzon converted a layup to seal the victory for Russia. Vitaliy Fridzon finished with 19 points, while Andrei Kirilenko added 20 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Emanuel Ginobili responded with 21 points for Argentina. Andres Nocioni had 16 points and 7 rebounds in the loss.
