USA claimed the 14th Olympic Gold. They defeated Spain in the championship game in London tonight to clinch the trophy. Kevin Durant led all scorers with 30 points and 9 rebounds. The lead changed hands numerous times throughout the starting quarter. Finally Kevin Durant and Carmelo Anthony gave Team USA a 25:16 lead. They finished the opening quarter up by 8 points 35:27. But Spain opened the second term with seven points in a row to narrow the deficit. Soon Rodriguez drained a triple to put Spain in front 39:37. The teams exchanged baskets as USA managed to eke out a 59:58 lead at halftime. The teams continued to go neck and neck throughout the third term. Kobe Bryant helped the North American team gain a 77:72 lead. But Serg Ibaka and Pau Gasol dragged Spain within one at the final intermission 82:83. Kevin Durant organized a 7:1 run from the USA as they posted a 97:87 lead with under five minutes remaining. Spain trimmed the deficit to 6 points but LeBron James hit a triple and Chris Paul followed a jumper to secure a 104:93 lead with 51 seconds remaining. USA hung on in the dying seconds and celebrated historic victory at the end. LeBron James accounted for 19 points, 7 boards and 4 assists for USA. Kobe Bryant added 17 points in the victory. Pau Gasol answered with 24 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists for Spain. Juan Carlos Navarro had 21 points in the loss.
