The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Montaneras as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Montaneras defeated bottom-ranked Leonas in Morovis 71-64. The hosts trailed by 5 points after three quarters before their 17-5 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Montaneras dominated on the defensive end, holding Leonas to just 5 points in fourth quarter. They also forced 21 Leonas turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of American power forward Angelina Williams (183-83, college: Illinois) who helped to win the game recording 12 points and 6 rebounds. Stephanie Pineiro contributed with 12 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Five Montaneras players scored in double figures. Montaneras' coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Denise Lewis (185-90, college: Tulsa) answered with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 16 rebounds and Jeidaris Flores added 15 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Leonas. Montaneras (7-0) have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Leonas at the other side still closes the standings with nine games lost. Leonas will play next round against strong Gigantes trying to get back on the winning streak. Montaneras will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked Piratas in Quebradillas.
