Regular Season Round 4: Panteras - Toros 63-72
Date: September 13, 2012
Quite upsetting was Panteras' (#2) home defeat in a game versus top-ranked Toros 72-63. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Panteras. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Toros made 8 blocks. American swingman Rene Rougeau (198-86, college: UNLV, agency: ProSportsCareers) fired a double-double by scoring 20 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners. The former international forward Jesus Lopez (205-83, college: SW Baptist) chipped in 14 points. Puerto Rican point guard Ricardo Melendez (179-83) produced 18 points and the former international guard Karim Malpica (190-78) added 10 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Toros have a solid four-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Halc.Xalapa. Loser Panteras dropped to the third place with one game lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Toros will meet Barreteros (#9) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Panteras will play against Fuerza Regia (#4) in Monterrey and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
