Regular Season Round 8: Quebradillas - San German 77-66

Very significant was Piratas' (#1, 9-2) victory against 4th ranked Athleticas (5-3) 77-66. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Athleticas. The game was mostly controlled by Piratas. Athleticas was better in fourth quarter 19-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Piratas players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. The winners were led by American forward Becca Bruszewski (185-88, college: Notre Dame) who scored that evening 20 points and 9 rebounds and the former international guard Yahimily Cabrera (-82) supported her with 11 points and 8 rebounds. Five Piratas players scored in double figures. Even 20 points and 8 rebounds by American guard Tyra White (182-89, college: Texas A&M) did not help to save the game for Athleticas. The former international guard Michelle Gonzalez (167-89, college: FIU) added 16 points and 6 rebounds for the guests. Newly promoted Piratas maintains first position with 9-2 record. Athleticas at the other side keep the fourth place with three games lost. Piratas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Athleticas will play at home against Leonas (#7) in Ponce and hope to get back on the winning track.
