The game in Juncos supposed to be also worth to mention about. Third ranked Gigantes (7-2) played at the court of 5th ranked Valencianes (3-7). Gigantes smashed Valencianes 75-54. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Valencianes. The game without a history. Gigantes led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Gigantes forced 22 Valencianes turnovers and outrebounded them 50-31 including 35 on the defensive glass. The former international Cynthia Valentin (174-84, college: Indiana, agency: LBM Management) orchestrated the victory by scoring 33 points (!!!) (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!). Finnish forward Kaihla Szunko (187-88, college: Cent.Michigan) contributed with 8 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Gigantes' coach felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Renee Taylor (158-85, college: Miami, FL, agency: Merit Sports) replied with 20 points and 4 assists and the former international center Esmary Vargas-Sanchez (191-81, college: Emporia St.) added 6 points, 12 rebounds and 7 blocks in the effort for Valencianes. Defending champion maintains third position with 7-2 record having 2 victories less than leader Quebradillas. Valencianes at the other side keep the fifth place with seven games lost. Gigantes' next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Leonas (#7) in Ponce. Valencianes will play at home against Athleticas in San German and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
