Regular Season Round 8: Quebradillas - Morovis M. 71-65

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Montaneras (7-1) in Quebradillas on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by Piratas (9-2) 71-65. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Montaneras. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 16-11. But Montaneras won second period 16-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Piratas looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Becca Bruszewski (185-88, college: Notre Dame) who helped to win the game recording 18 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists and the former international forward Mari Placido (181-87) who added 15 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. International point guard Pamela Rosado (165-86) responded with 25 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and Stephanie Pineiro scored 5 points and 15 rebounds. Newly promoted Piratas maintains first position with 9-2 record. Montaneras at the other side keep the second place with one game lost. Piratas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Montaneras will play at home against Tigres in Aguas Buenas and are hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
