Bottom-ranked Leonas (0-12) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 81-58 loss to third ranked Gigantes (8-2) in Ponce. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. The game without a history. Gigantes led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Leonas to just 4 points in first quarter. Gigantes forced 20 Leonas turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. It was a good game for American forward Kaihla Szunko (187-88, college: Cent.Michigan) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds. The former international Cynthia Valentin (174-84, college: Indiana, agency: LBM Management) contributed with 15 points for the winners. Four Gigantes players scored in double figures. American forward Denise Lewis (185-90, college: Tulsa) answered with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 18 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import forward Jessica Fairweather (178, college: Dominican, NY) added 15 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Leonas. Defending champion moved-up to second place. Leonas at the other side still closes the standings with 12 games lost. Gigantes will play against league's leader Piratas in Quebradillas in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Leonas will play at home against Valencianes (#5) in Juncos and hope to get finally their first victory.
