Japan posted the third straight win at the start of Fiba Asia Cup. The hosts tamed India in Tokyo to remain on top of Group B. Kosuke Kanamaru posted 26 points to lead the hosts. India suffered the fourth loss in a row. Japan exploded with 28 points in the opening quarter to surge ahead. They accumulated a 6-point lead at the first break. India managed to slow the home side down in the second quarter. India got within 3 points at halftime 41:44. But the third term proved the difference. Japan ignited a 23:13 rally to clear off to a 13-point distance. They maintained the lead throughout the fourth frame and sealed the victory at the end. J.R. Sakuragi notched 18 points and 9 rebounds, while Ryota Sakurai added 12 points for Japan. Vishesh Bhriguvanshi answered with 21 points for India. Pethani Rikin netted 16 points in the loss.
