There was a minor upset in Carolina where leader Gigantes (9-3) were defeated by first ranked Montaneras (9-3) 81-76 on Sunday. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Gigantes were tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Montaneras made 22-of-28 free shots (78.6 percent) during the game. Strangely Gigantes outrebounded Montaneras 49-37 including 20 on the offensive glass. It was a great evening for American power forward Angelina Williams (183-83, college: Illinois) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 32 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks. International point guard Pamela Rosado (165-86) helped adding 16 points and 4 steals. International forward Yolanda Jones (184-84, college: La-Lafayette) responded with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 18 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international Cynthia Valentin (174-84, college: Indiana, agency: LBM Management) scored 21 points and 4 assists. Montaneras maintains first place with 9-3 record, which they share with Carolina G. Montaneras will face Valencianes (#5) in Juncos in the next round. Gigantes will play on the road against Athleticas (#4) in San German.
