Rather predictable result in Ponce where fourth ranked Athleticas (8-5) smashed bottom-ranked Leonas (0-14) 82-60 on Sunday. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Athleticas dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Leonas' 46. They outrebounded Leonas 58-40 including a 43-27 advantage in defensive rebounds. Americans were the main players on the court. It was a great evening for forward Kristina Rosario (188-88, college: Morgan St.) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 15 rebounds. Guard Tyra White (182-89, college: Texas A&M) helped adding 16 points and 7 rebounds. Five Athleticas players scored in double figures. Forward Denise Lewis (185-90, college: Tulsa) responded with 25 points and 7 rebounds and forward Jessica Fairweather (178, college: Dominican, NY) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds. Athleticas maintains fourth place with 8-5 record. Loser Leonas still closes the standings with 14 games lost. Athleticas will face league's second-placed Gigantes in Carolina in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
