Regular Season Round 13: Ponce L. - Morovis M. 58-72

Bottom-ranked Leonas (0-15) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 72-58 loss to third ranked Montaneras (11-4) in Ponce on Wednesday evening. The game was mostly controlled by Montaneras. Leonas managed to win third quarter 15-10. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Montaneras forced 21 Leonas turnovers. American power forward Angelina Williams (183-83, college: Illinois) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 13 rebounds for the winners and international point guard Pamela Rosado (165-86) chipped in 15 points and 5 rebounds. Four Montaneras players scored in double figures. At the losing side American forward Denise Lewis (185-90, college: Tulsa) responded with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 16 rebounds and international guard Angelica Bermudez (179-89, college: Kean) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 15 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Montaneras maintains third place with 11-4 record behind leader Quebradillas. Loser Leonas still closes the standings with 15 games lost. Montaneras will meet at home Tigres (#6) in the next round. Leonas will play against the league's leader Piratas in Quebradillas and hope to get finally their first victory.
