Regular Season Round 5: Strakonice - DSK Karlin 84-73

Aldast Strakonice has registered their first victory this season after four consecutive loses. The win is especially important as they defeated much higher ranked DSK Karlin (2-3) 84-73. It looked good early as DSK Karlin took an 3-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Aldast Strakonice had a 26-11 second period charge getting the lead and DSK Karlin was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 73-84. They outrebounded DSK Karlin 38-21 including a 26-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. DSK Karlin was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. Center Zora Jileckova (194-81) nailed a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 16 rebounds for the winning side and Slovakian center Viera Libicova (190-80) accounted for 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international guard Veronika Bortelova (172-78) came up with 16 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals and American center Melissa D'Amico (195-86, college: Notre Dame, agency: Regeneracom Sports) added 16 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) respectively for DSK Karlin in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. DSK Karlin's coach Daniel Kurucz rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Aldast Strakonice (1-4) left bottom position moving up to tenth place, which they share with Lokomotiva. DSK Karlin at the other side keeps the sixth position with three games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Aldast Strakonice will play against higher ranked VSE Praha (#9) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. DSK Karlin will play against the league's leader USK Praha and will have a slim chance for a victory.
