Regular Season Round 3: Mazeikiai - Delikatesas 81-61

There was a change at the NKL leadership position after last games. The most important game of round 3 took place in Mazeikiai between two undefeated teams where Mazeikiai crushed Delikatesas (2-1) 81-61 on Friday night. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Delikatesas. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Mazeikiai. Delikatesas managed to win second period 21-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Delikatesas 41-21 including a 23-12 advantage in defensive rebounds. 24 personal fouls committed by Delikatesas helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for forward Osvaldas Macernis (196-82) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals. Guard Andrius Mikutis (193-88, college: John Brown) helped adding 12 points and 13 rebounds. Four Mazeikiai players scored in double figures. Mazeikiai's coach Aloyzas Rudys used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was guard Paulius Klemas (186-91) with 12 points, 8 assists and 6 steals and guard Irmantas Lianzbergas (185-91) scored 16 points. Mazeikiai have a solid series of three victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader. Delikatesas at the other side dropped to the second place with one game lost. They share the position with 8 other teams. They were replaced at the leadership position by Mazeikiai. Delikatesas will play next round against Triobet trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Mazeikiai will try to continue on its current victory against eleventh ranked Birstono on the road.
