Montaneras (#3) forced the game against Piratas (#1) into a double-overtime, but lost by five points 75-80 on Sunday night. The hosts trailed by 8 points after three quarters before their 15-7 charge, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time and get a 0-point victory in double-overtime. Piratas dominated on the defensive end, holding Montaneras to just 7 points in fourth quarter. Piratas shot 28 for 39 from the free-throw line, while Montaneras only scored twelve points from the stripe. Strangely Montaneras outrebounded Piratas 57-45 including a 22-11 advantage in offensive rebounds. Montaneras were plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. American forward Becca Bruszewski (185-88, college: Notre Dame) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Her fellow American import guard Melissa Lechlitner (170-88, college: Notre Dame) contributed with 17 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Four Piratas players scored in double figures. American power forward Angelina Williams (183-83, college: Illinois) answered with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists and international point guard Pamela Rosado (165-86) added 27 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Montaneras. Piratas (16-4) have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. Newly promoted Piratas maintains first place, which they share with Carolina G. Montaneras at the other side keep the third position with six games lost. Piratas will have a break next round. Montaneras will play at home against Valencianes in Juncos and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
