Rather expected game when 4th placed Athleticas (8-10) lost to second ranked Gigantes (16-4) in San German 71-85 on Sunday. The guests trailed by 7 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 3-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 85-71. Gigantes forced 20 Athleticas turnovers. International forward Yolanda Jones (184-84, college: La-Lafayette) orchestrated the victory by scoring 20 points and 8 rebounds. American forward Kaihla Szunko (187-88, college: Cent.Michigan) contributed with 17 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Five Gigantes players scored in double figures. Gigantes' coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Sumar Leslie (170-90, college: Nicholls St.) answered with 21 points and 6 rebounds and the former international Stephanie Rosado (189-89, college: IPFW) added 13 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for Athleticas. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Gigantes. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Quebradillas. Athleticas lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the fourth place with ten games lost. Gigantes will have a break next round. Athleticas will play on the road against Tigres (#6) in Aguas Buenas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
