Regular Season Round 3: Keflavik - KR 83-85

A very interesting game took place in Keflavik. It ended with only two-point home defeat of bottom-ranked Keflavik (0-3) to sixth ranked KR (2-1) 85-83 on Thursday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. Keflavik was ahead by 12 points after three quarters before a 33-19 charge of KR, which allowed them to win the game. They also forced 20 Keflavik turnovers. Strangely Keflavik outrebounded KR 39-26 including a 27-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international Helgi Magnusson (195-82, college: Catawba) who scored 27 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists (perfect behind the arc making all five shots). International center Finnur Magnusson (208-85, college: Catawba) chipped in 16 points. Four KR players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international guard Darrel Lewis (192-76, college: Lincoln, MO, agency: Two Points) who recorded 30 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) and American forward Michael Craion (195, college: ORU) added 27 points and 12 rebounds respectively. KR keeps a position of league leader, which they share with 7 other teams. Keflavik at the other side still closes the standings with three games lost. KR's next round opponent will be Snaefell (#4) in Stykkisholmur. Keflavik will play on the road against KFI (#8) in Reykjavik and hopes to get finally their first victory.
