Regular Season Round 3: Kings - Taipans 68-88
Date: October 19, 2012
The game between Top Four teams took place in Sydney. 4th placed host Kings (1-2) were smashed by fourth ranked Cairns Taipans (2-2) 88-68. The game was mostly controlled by Cairns Taipans. Kings managed to win fourth quarter 21-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Kings 38-24 including a 28-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Cairns Taipans especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.9 percentage. The best player for the winners was American point guard Jamar Wilson (185-84, college: Albany, agency: Pro One Sports) who scored 22 points and 4 assists. The former international swingman Brad Hill (198-86) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds. Five Cairns Taipans players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was swingman Ben Madgen (193-85, college: Augusta St.) who recorded 26 points and center Ian Crosswhite (210-82, college: Oregon) added 12 points respectively. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Despite that victory Cairns Taipans went down to fifth position due to points difference. Loser Kings dropped to the sixth place with two games lost. Cairns Taipans will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Kings will play again against Cairns Taipans (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
