Not a big story in a game when 13th ranked Guerreros (4-13) were outscored by fourth ranked Soles (13-4) in Mexicali 84-64 on Thursday. The game was mostly controlled by Soles. Guerreros managed to win fourth quarter 20-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Soles dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Guerreros' 38. Soles forced 22 Guerreros turnovers and outrebounded them 45-32 including a 38-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 5 passes made by Guerreros' players. American guard Carl Elliott (193-83, college: G.Washington, agency: SportsTalent) nailed 13 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists for the winning side and the former international forward Roman Martinez (201-88, college: N.Mexico) accounted for 11 points and 7 rebounds. Five Soles players scored in double figures. Soles' coach Ivan Deniz used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American forward Travis Gabbidon (201, college: UTSA) came up with 22 points and 8 rebounds and American-Puerto Rican power forward Angel Alamo (206-85) added 14 points and 13 rebounds respectively for Guerreros in the defeat. The victory was the twelfth consecutive win for Soles. They moved-up to third place. Guerreros lost their fourth game in a row. Newly promoted team keep the thirteenth position with 13 games lost. Soles will meet at home Gansos (#14) in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Guerreros will play against Pioneros in Cancun and hope to secure a win.
