Regular Season Round 3: Fisica - Sampaense 66-59

There was a small surprise when eleventh ranked Fisica (1-2) beat bottom-ranked Sampaense (0-2) in Torres Vedras 66-59. The hosts were already 12 points ahead at halftime and as many as 13 after three quarters before a 19-13 last quarter charge of Sampaense cut the lead to 66-59 at the end of the game. Fisica forced 19 Sampaense turnovers. It was a great evening for point guard Carlos Barroca (182-84) who led his team to a victory scoring 20 points and 4 assists. Naturalized Sao Tome and Principe power forward Ekjersey Viana (203-77) helped adding 8 points and 14 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American forward Al Rapier (200-89, college: Stony Brook, agency: Dynamics Global Management) with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds and the other American import guard Steve Baker (187-90, college: Wisc.-Green Bay) scored 14 points and 6 rebounds. Fisica left bottom position moving up to seventh place, which they share with Lusitania and Galitos-Tley. Sampaense at the other side still closes the standings with two games lost. Fisica will play against higher ranked Vitoria SC (#3) in Guimaraes in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Sampaense will play at home against Galitos-Tley (#7) in Barreiro and hopes to get finally their first victory.
