Regular Season Round 1: TWU - UBC 84-91

Date: November 2, 2012
An interesting game was played in Langley, BC where Thunderbirds (#4) beat host Spartans (#3) 91-84 on Friday evening. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Spartans won third quarter 25-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Thunderbirds forced 23 Spartans turnovers. Guard O'Brian Wallace (185, college: Miles CC) stepped up and scored 34 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds for the winners and American guard Doug Plumb (193, college: Minnesota St.) chipped in 22 points and 6 rebounds. At the losing side Mark Perrin responded with 32 points and 9 rebounds and guard Tonner Jackson (201) scored 20 points and 5 rebounds. Spartans' coach tested twelve players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Thunderbirds (1-0) keep a position of league leader, which they share with 6 other teams. Loser Spartans still closes the standings with one game lost. They share the position with 6 other teams. Thunderbirds will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Spartans will play again against the league's leader Thunderbirds (#1) in Vancouver, BC.
