Regular Season Round 6: Starwings - Geneve Lions 78-88

Bottom-ranked Starwings (0-6) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 88-78 loss to third ranked Geneve Lions (4-2) in Basel on Sunday evening. The game was mostly controlled by Geneve Lions. Starwings managed to win third quarter 21-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Geneve Lions looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Croatian power forward Andrej Stimac (204-79) scored 22 points and 7 assists to lead the charge for the winners and naturalized French swingman Mikael Maruotto (199-91) chipped in 11 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was American power forward Justin Dobbins (203-87, college: E.Michigan, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) with 21 points and 9 rebounds and Canadian-Irish swingman Tony McCrory (199-77, college: Simon Fraser) scored 16 points and 4 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Geneve Lions maintains third position with 4-2 record behind leader SAV Vacallo, which they share with Lugano Tigers and Monthey. Loser Starwings still closes the standings with six games lost. Geneve Lions will meet at home Lugano Tigers (#4) in the next round. Starwings will play against SAM Massagno (#9) and hope to get finally their first victory.
