Regular Season Round 6: Shanxi - Liaoning 81-57

Round 6 in WCBA means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Taiyuan where host Shanxi (4-2) crushed league's leader Liaoning Hengye (4-2) 81-57 on Tuesday evening. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Shanxi. Liaoning Hengye managed to win second period 14-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Shanxi dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Liaoning Hengye's 36. Shanxi forced 24 Liaoning Hengye turnovers and outrebounded them 47-34 including 32 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was Spanish Maya Moore (183-89, college: Connecticut) who had a double-double by scoring 30 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international forward Yu Zhang (184-86) chipped in 20 points and 7 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Belarusian center Yelena Leuchanka (196-83, college: W.Virginia) who recorded 17 points and 8 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and the former international forward Xiaoli Chen (193-82) added 15 points respectively. Shanxi have a solid four-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Liaoning Hengye. Liaoning Hengye will play next round against strong Henan Elephants trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Shanxi will try to continue on its current victory against eighth ranked Shenyang Golden Lions in Dandong.
