Regular Season Round 19: Boston C. - Toronto R. 107-89
Date: November 17, 2012
Rajon Rondo returned to the lineup as the Celtics took a 107-89 win over the Toronto Raptors Saturday afternoon at TD Garden. Rondo had 20 assists, setting the tone early, and enabled Kevin Garnett (17 minutes) and Paul Pierce (25 minutes) to rest up for the Celtics’ visit to Detroit Sunday. This was the Celtics’ greatest margin of victory and first double-digit win of the season. But they did not officially turn the contest into a blowout until the final quarter. Toronto pulled within 2 points late in the third. Jason Terry (20 points) sparked a Celtic rally, but coach Doc Rivers did not feel secure about things until well into the final quarter. The Celtics took a 30-17 first-quarter lead, shooting 73.7 percent from the field. The lead increased to 16 points as Garnett hit three free throws in the opening 2:04 of the second quarter. The Celtics maintained a double-figure advantage late in the first half, but Toronto closed within 47-41 at halftime. Terry converted three 3-pointers as the Celtics closed the third quarter with a 16-3 run over the final 3:20, and clamped down defensively, holding Toronto without a field goal over the final 5:30. Andrea Bargnani’s free throw pulled the Raptors within 63-61 with 3:30 left. Rondo, who missed the Celtics game in Brooklyn Thursday with a sprained right ankle, quickly got the Celtics into the offense, setting up Terry for a three. Jared Sullinger’s free throw off an offensive rebound made it 85-64 with 10:34 left in the game. Rondo went to the bench and the Celtics lost their way, Rivers calling a timeout as the Raptors pulled within 16. Then the Celtics reserves, led by Sullinger (12 points, 11 rebounds) finished things off. Courtesy of: bostonglobe.com
