Regular Season Round 6: Moncton M. - Summerside S. 97-86

The Storm, who opened the regular season with four straight wins, dropped the opening game of a home-and-home series with the Moncton Miracles by a 97-86 score. The win moved the Miracles into first place in the Atlantic Division, a half game ahead of the Storm. Moncton is 5-3 (won-lost) while the Storm slipped to 4-3. The two teams will clash again tonight (Friday) at Eastlink Arena in Summerside. The opening tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., and a big crowd is expected for the Storm’s first home game in two weeks. At the Moncton Coliseum, the second quarter proved to be the difference in the game. After the Storm led 28-24 after the opening 12 minutes, the Miracles outscored Summerside 23-15 to take a 47-43 advantage into halftime. The Miracles won the third quarter 24-23, and outscored the Storm by six points, 26-20, in the fourth. Sylvania Watkins scored a game-high 26 points to lead the Miracles, who received 22 points from Oliver McNally and 18 from Darrell Wonge. Wonge scored 11 of those points in the first quarter. Greg Plummer was the Storm’s top point-getter with 24. Brandon Hassell had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds and Issa Konare added 13. Storm guard and team captain Al Stewart went over the 500-career point mark in a Storm uniform with 14 points. Stewart now sits second on the team’s all-time scoring list behind Mike Williams, who scored 590 last season. The Storm went 31-for-100 in field-goal attempts while Moncton was 31-for-75.
