Date: November 23, 2012
The Saint John Mill Rats, presented by Rogers, crushed the Windsor Express on Friday evening at Harbour Station with a final score of 119-88 in front of 1,876 fans. After a tough loss to the Oshawa Power last night, the Mill Rats meant business tonight as they bolted out of the gate getting their lead early on in the game. Mill Rats' leading scorer Antonio Burks and Steve Deluca, both nailed a couple of three pointers. The first quarter ended with the Mill Rats ahead 34-17. The Mill Rats kept their momentum during the second, with the help of Anthony Anderson and Burks who added another 2 threes. Jerice Crouch closed the half with a buzzer beating three to give the Mill Rats a 31 point edge, leading 66-35 over the Express. The Mill Rats shot 56% from the perimeter, netting 10 of their 18 attempted threes. The Express fought hard but weren't able to close the 30 point spread. The last quarter, the crowd was entertained by the debut of Will Njoku, a former NBA draft and one of the three Canadian players on the Mill Rats team. During his 5 minutes on the court, he scored 3 points and grabbed 1 rebound. The Mill Rats maintained their lead crushing the Express 119-88. The Mill Rats rise to 3-4 on the season, while the Express fall to 2-4. Leading scorers for the Mill Rats were Antonio Burks with 25 points, while guards Anthony Anderson and Jerice Crouch each added 16. Anderson also added 13 assists, making this a double double. The game was also the team's Movember theme game and audience members cheered to pick the "Must-have Moustache" of the game. Three prizes were awarded as part of a league wide initiative to support prostate cancer and men's mental health research. A special thank you to Rocky's Sports Bar, Moosehead Breweries and Booster Juice for making these prizes happen! The Mill Rats are on the road next week in Ontario taking on the Oshawa Power again at home on Wednesday and the London Lightning on Thursday. They are back at Harbour Station on Saturday, Dec. 1st taking on the first place Central division team, the London Lightning. Game time is 7pm. Courtesy of: oursportscentral.com
