Regular Season Round 24: Detroit P. - Toronto R. 91-90

Date: November 23, 2012
Brandon Knight didn't get to play the second quarter after a tough first. In the fourth, the second-year point guard rescued a game for the Detroit Pistons. Knight's not-to-be-denied drive out of a halfcourt set produced a layup with 7.8 seconds left and gave the Pistons a 91-90 win Friday over the Toronto Raptors. It was a win the Pistons desperately needed -- both teams are 3-10 -- on a night when they took their longest look yet at their front-court pairing of the future, Andre Drummond and Greg Monroe, both of whom had double-doubles. But it was Knight's play that sent a long-suffering crowd at The Palace of Auburn Hills into a frenzy unlike they've experienced here in a while. Knight finished with 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting after struggling with three first-quarter turnovers. He had eight in the fourth quarter, including five unanswered which brought the Pistons back from a five-point deficit into an 82-82 tie. His game-winner followed a pair of clutch hook shots by Tayshaun Prince, both coming after the Pistons had fallen behind by three points. Kyle Lowry missed Toronto's last two shots, a well-defended 14-footer and a 17-footer at the buzzer which bounced over the rim. Knight's heroics were set up by an exceptional blend of Monroe (19 points, 11 rebounds) and Drummond (13 points, 13 rebounds), forced because of Toronto's size and specifically Andrea Bargnani's perimeter shooting.
