Undefeated leader Galatasaray delivered the seventh consecutive victory. This time they beat 16th ranked Mersin (1-6) 84-73 in Istanbul. The game was mostly controlled by Galatasaray. Mersin was better in third quarter 23-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Mersin 42-28 including 30 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard David Hawkins (194-82, college: Temple) who helped to win the game recording 14 points and 6 assists. Naturalized American power forward Ersin Dagli (203-81, college: Alabama, agency: Interperformances) contributed with a double-double by scoring 10 points, 13 rebounds and 5 blocks for the winners. Galatasaray's coach Ergin Ataman allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Naturalized American forward Ali Karadeniz (203-80, college: Arizona) answered with 20 points and 9 rebounds and American guard Willie Solomon (187-78, college: Clemson) added 15 points and 4 assists in the effort for Mersin. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The victory was the seventh consecutive win for Galatasaray. They maintain first place with 7-0 record. Mersin at the other side stay at the bottom position with six games lost. They share it with Gaziantep. Galatasaray will play against Besiktas (#6) in Istanbul in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Mersin will play on the road against Antalya (#14) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
