Regular Season Round 31: New York K. - Washington W. 108-87

Date: November 30, 2012
The Wizards had little magic at Madison Square Garden in their seventh road loss of the season and their tenth loss in a row against the Knicks, 108-87. After a 2-3 stint in their last five games, the Wizards were just what the doctor ordered for a Knicks’ second straight win, their sixth win at home, and an opportunity to rest starters. The Wizards are 0-7 on the road while the Knicks remain perfect at home. The Wizards built an early four-point lead, 6-2 in the first quarter that the Knicks turned into a tie at 6-6, then 8-8. The Wizards’ A.J. Price hit a 25-foot three-pointer to send Washington ahead again; Ronnie Brewer and J.R. Smith connected on threes to send the Knicks ahead, 14-11 and the Wizards to the bench for a timeout. The quarter finished with the Knicks up 26-17. In the second quarter, the Knicks received scoring from Smith, Pablo Prigioni, Rasheed Wallace, Tyson Chandler, Tyson Chandler, Carmelo Anthony, Raymond Felton, and Brewer. Prigioni was the star of the second quarter with three consecutive baskets for the Knicks, a three-pointer followed by a two-point jump shot that was followed by another three. Prigioni continues to capitalize on his extra minutes of play while Jason Kidd has been sidelined with back spasms for three straight games. The Knicks went to the locker room at the half up 57-46. Kevin Seraphim led the Wizards in scoring in the third quarter with 7 points, but that was not enough to close the Knicks’ advantage. The Knicks led by 18 points after a three-pointer by Steve Novak with 3:37 left in the third quarter. They pushed their lead to 21 with a three by Wallace and to 23 with a jump shot by Raymond Felton. The Wizards’ Bradley Beal answered with a jumper with :32 left in the quarter and the score stood at 86-65 at quarter’s end. The Knicks outscored the Wizards in the third quarter, 29-19, to widen their lead at 86-65. Anthony was able to sit the entire fourth quarter and finish with 20 points in 28 minutes of play. J.R. Smith anchored what might be called the Knicks third unit in the fourth quarter, accompanied by James White, Chris Copeland, Prigioni, and Steve Novak. Smith completed the game with 20 points in 38 minutes. Five Knicks finished in double figures (Brewer, Chandler, and Felton, in addition to Anthony and Smith). Washington’s leading scorer for the game was Jordan Crawford, coming off the bench to secure 17 points. The Wizards got 14 points from Beal and 13 from Seraphim. No other Wizards were in double figures. The Wizards dropped to 0-7 on the road and 1-14 overall. The Knicks jumped to 11-4, the first time they have won 11 games by November since 1992. Next up for the Knicks are the Phoenix Suns (7-10) at home on Sunday. Courtesy of: examiner.com
