Regular Season Round 11: Ventspils - Rapla 76-57

Baltic League top team - Latvian Ventspils (8-0) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they crushed fifth ranked Estonian Rapla (1-6) 76-57. The game was mostly controlled by Ventspils. Rapla was better in fourth quarter 19-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Ventspils dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Rapla's 26. They outrebounded Rapla 38-27 including 25 on the defensive glass. Center Martins Meiers (208-91) orchestrated the victory by scoring 12 points and 8 rebounds. American guard Folarin Campbell (192-86, college: George Mason) contributed with 13 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Four Ventspils players scored in double figures. point guard Rait-Riivo Laane (178-93) answered with 7 points and 6 assists and forward Indrek Kajupank (200-88) added 15 points in the effort for Rapla. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. The victory was the eighth consecutive win for Ventspils. They maintain first place with 8-0 record. Loser Rapla keeps the fifth position with six games lost. Ventspils will have a break next round. Rapla will play at home against Barsy Atyrau (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
