Regular Season Round 9: Aris - Ikaros 70-60

An interesting game took place in Thessaloniki where higher ranked Ikaros (5-4) was upset on the court of eleventh ranked Aris (3-6) 70-60. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Ikaros. It looked good early as Ikaros took an 5-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Aris had a 22-12 second period charge getting the lead and Ikaros was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 60-70. It was a good game for power forward Kostas Charissis (212-79, college: USC, agency: FCM) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 11 rebounds. The former international forward Michalis Pelekanos (198-81, agency: FCM) contributed with 16 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Four Aris players scored in double figures. Aris' coach Vangelis Agelou allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American point guard Danny Gibson (180-84, college: S.Indiana) answered with 21 points and Croatian guard Zoran Vrkic (200-87) added 17 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Ikaros. Aris moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Peristeri GS and KAOD. Ikaros at the other side dropped to the fifth position with four games lost. Aris' next round opponent will be KAOD (#11) in Dramas. Ikaros will play at home against AGOR (#5) in Rethymno and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
