Regular Season Round 11: Rhein MB II - Hagen Phoenix 38-55

There was a small surprise in Langen where twelfth ranked Hagen Phoenix (3-8) beat 9th ranked Rhein MB II (3-8) 55-38 on Saturday. Rhein MB II was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Hagen Phoenix dominated on the defensive end, holding Rhein MB II to just 7 points in first quarter. They held Rhein MB II to an opponent 24.5 percent shooting from the field compared to 32.4 percent accuracy of the winners. Hagen Phoenix forced 27 Rhein MB II turnovers. The best player for the winners was guard Franziska Goessmann (170-89) who scored 12 points. Center Alina Gimbel (186-96) chipped in 8 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocks. Kristin Annawald (184-93) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 11 rebounds and point guard Pia Dietrich (168-94) added 12 points and 4 steals respectively for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Hagen Phoenix moved-up to ninth place in North, which they share with Rhein MB II and Bielefeld. Hagen Phoenix will face higher ranked Baskets Grunberg (#4) in Gruenberg in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
