Regular Season Round 13: Windsor Exp. - Montreal J. 104-95

Date: December 15, 2012
The Windsor Express now have some options when starters are struggling to find their game. That wasn't the case early in the season for head coach Bill Jones, but it was a key Saturday as the Express rallied from a double-digit deficit to record a 104-95 win over the Montreal Jazz at the WFCU Centre. Windsor now boasts its first three-game winning streak. "We now have better players, professional players that can play in a professional league," Jones said. "If one is struggling, we can put another in there and give us a chance to win." The Express got that help Saturday after falling behind by 13 points to the winless Jazz. Six-foot-eight, 225-pound Chris Commons came off the bench to drop 28 points in 38 minutes, and six-foot-four guard Ronald Kraemer subbed for a foul-plagued Mike Helms and scored 13 points in 38 minutes. "Those guys are awesome," said Express guard Darren Duncan, who led all scorers with 31 points along with 10 assists. "Chris is a spectacular addition. He's given us veteran leadership and scoring. Kraemer can come off the bench and score 15 or 20. He's got a great shot. and it gives us two options that make us very versatile." Playing back-to-back games, the Express were sluggish out of the gate and trailed 31-18 after the opening quarter. "Back-to-back is tough," said Duncan, whose team is now 6-7. "You have to get up and focus every game, and your body's tired after one game. "It's part of being young as a team and not focused. As the game started to go on, we started to get our minds right." Windsor still trailed by nine at the half but pulled even at 73-73 after three quarters before taking control of the game down the stretch. "We've won the last three, and I think the sky's the limit for our team," Duncan said. "I think we're making major strides in the right direction." Duncan is only six games into his Express career after coming over in a deal with the Halifax Rainmen. "He's the point guard we crave," Jones said. While Kraemer will continue to spell Helms, who is seventh in league scoring, Jones said Commons wants more minutes. "I had a conversation with him the other day and asked does it affect him it he's not starting," Jones said. "He said, 'Whatever helps the team.' "We'll work things out and see how he develops." Next up for the Express is a home-and-home series with the London Lightning starting Thursday on the road. Courtesy of: canada.com
