Regular Season Round 31: Khimik - Azovmash 66-88

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Yuzhny. Third ranked Azovmash faced 4th placed Khimik. Guests from Mariupol (14-5) smashed host Khimik (12-8) 88-66. It looked good early as Khimik took an 2-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Azovmash had a 34-13 second period charge getting the lead and Khimik was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 66-88. Worth to mention a great performance of Serbian center Miroslav Raduljica (213-88) who helped to win the game recording 16 points. The former international center Oleksiy Pecherov (213-85) contributed with 17 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Five Azovmash players scored in double figures. American forward Vernon Goodridge (206-84, college: La Salle) answered with 11 points and the former international forward Vitaliy Kovalenko (203-84) added 9 points in the effort for Khimik. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Azovmash maintains third place with 14-5 record having 3 victories less than leader Budivelnyk. Khimik lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth position with eight games lost. Azovmash will play against Cherkasy (#9) at home in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Khimik will have a break next round.
