Eleventh-ranked Mersin (4-9) made lots of trouble for seventh ranked TED Kolejliler (8-5) in Ankara. TED Kolejliler managed to secure only three-point victory 88-85. However their fans expected much easier game. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 24-10. But Mersin won second period 28-22. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when TED Kolejliler won last quarter 21-19. They made 19-of-24 charity shots (79.2 percent) during the game. 26 personal fouls committed by Mersin helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. New Zealand guard Kirk Penney (196-80, college: Wisconsin, agency: Duran International) nailed 30 points for the winning side and Serbian center Jovo Stanojevic (208-77, agency: Beo Basket) accounted for 17 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Four TED Kolejliler players scored in double figures. Naturalized American forward Ali Karadeniz (203-80, college: Arizona) came up with 30 points and 6 rebounds and the former international center Mutlu Demir (210-87) added 17 points respectively for Mersin in the defeat. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for TED Kolejliler. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Besiktas. Mersin at the other side keeps the eleventh position with nine games lost. TED Kolejliler's next round opponent will be Besiktas (#6) in Istanbul. Mersin will play on the road against Tofas (#10) in Bursa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
