Regular Season Round 16: Acadia - UPEI 69-84

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Axemen (6-1) in Wolfville, NS on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by third ranked Panthers (5-2) 84-69. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Axemen. The game was mostly controlled by Panthers. Axemen managed to win second period 17-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Axemen 49-33 including a 36-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of Deontay Smith who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds. Guard Terrence Brown (186) contributed with 17 points for the winners. Four Panthers players scored in double figures. Panthers' coach Tim Kendrick used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. point guard Jonathan Tull (190, college: Cent.Conn.St.) replied with 21 points and 5 rebounds and guard Anthony Ashe (193) added 16 points in the effort for Axemen. Panthers maintains third position with 5-2 record having 3 victories less than leader Bishop's. Axemen at the other side keeps the second place with one game lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
