Regular Season Round 16: Challans - Monaco 77-76

A very interesting game took place in Challans. It ended with only one-point defeat on the road of higher ranked Monaco (7-7) to thirteenth ranked Vendee Challans (5-9) 77-76 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Monaco. Monaco was ahead by 1 point at the halftime before a 39-37 second half run of Vendee Challans. They also forced 19 Monaco turnovers. Strangely Monaco outrebounded Vendee Challans 36-24 including 27 on the defensive glass. Guard Johan Rathieuville (177-85) fired 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Forward Fabien Herard (198-79) chipped in 15 points and 7 rebounds. Four Vendee Challans players scored in double figures. Forward Olivier Bardet (203-80) produced 29 points and 5 rebounds and naturalized Tunisian power forward Mehdi Labeyrie-Hafsi (203-78) added 19 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side. Monaco's coach Jean-Michel Senegal rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Vendee Challans moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Angers BC 49 and Chartres. Newly promoted Monaco dropped to the ninth position with seven games lost. Vendee Challans' next round opponent will be higher ranked La Rochelle (#6) on the road and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
