Regular Season Round 27: Austin T. - Texas L. 105-87
Date: January 13, 2013
The Austin Toros jumped out to a 9-0 advantage over the Texas Legends and led wire-to-wire Sunday night for a 105-87 victory, their fourth straight in NBA D-League play. Corey Joseph led the Toros with 27 points. He has led the team in scoring each of the past four games, averaging 25 points over that span. “I’ve got to give all the credit to my teammates. They’re finding me in the right spots,” Joseph said. “Being down here for a little longer, they start to know my game, I’m starting to know their game, so we’re gelling.” Justin Dentmon added 25 points, seven rebounds and nine assists. Twenty of his points were in the first half, when the Toros built a 52-39 lead. Austin is 11-5 with Dentmon in the lineup and 0-4 without the reigning D-League Most Valuable Player. “I’m just really excited with how our guys are playing,” coach Taylor Jenkins said. “We had a really tough losing streak, four in a row, six out of seven. Things could have really gone in the wrong direction.” The Legends got to within three points in the third quarter, but the Toros always had an answer. Austin pulled away in the fourth, outscoring the Legends 26-13. Rick Jackson and Tyler Wilkerson each had double-doubles. Jackson had 16 points and 16 rebounds; he has had a double-double in five straight games. “I figure if I get rebounds, I’ve got a better chance of getting called up,” Jackson said. “As far as the offense, the offense will come just by me going out there and rebounding.” Wilkerson had 13 points and 12 rebounds. The Toros had lost their last four games at Cedar Park Center before Sunday. Jenkins still likes the advantage his team has playing before the home fans. “They really give us a lot of energy,” Jenkins said. “When we make the big plays, you can see the crowd erupt, and we just kind of feed off of that. It’s nice to sleep in your own bed too every now and then.” Austin will go on the road for two games at Tulsa before returning home Jan. 25 to play Idaho. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. Courtesy of: statesman.com
