Regular Season Round 13: Maccabi T-A - Elizur Ashkelon 80-59

Winner League top team - Maccabi T-A (12-1) had no problems winning another game on Monday. This time they crushed seventh ranked Ironi Ashkelon (5-8) in Tel-Aviv 80-59. The game was mostly controlled by Maccabi T-A. Ironi Ashkelon managed to win second period 20-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Ironi Ashkelon to just 5 points in third quarter. Maccabi T-A looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American swingman Devin Smith (196-83, college: Virginia) nailed 19 points and 6 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winning side and the former international point guard Moran Roth (178-82, agency: Avi Zilberman) accounted for 10 points and 6 assists. Maccabi T-A's coach David Blatt felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Marcus Dove (206-85, college: Oklahoma St.) came up with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds and point guard Oded Shaashoua (186-82, agency: Avi Zilberman) added 14 points respectively for Ironi Ashkelon in the defeat. Maccabi T-A have an impressive series of ten victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 12-1 record. Loser Ironi Ashkelon dropped to the eighth position with eight games lost. They share it with Hapoel T-A and Hapoel Holon. Maccabi T-A will meet Maccabi Rishon (#6) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Ironi Ashkelon will play against Hapoel Tel-Aviv and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
