Regular Season Round 23: Liaoning H. - Qingdao E. 97-99

Bottom-ranked Qingdao Eagles managed to get the third consecutive victory. This time they edged fourth-ranked Liaoning Hunters in Yingkou 99-97. Liaoning Hunters were tied at the half but could not keep up in last two quarters eventually losing the game. Qingdao Eagles made 16-of-19 charity shots (84.2 percent) during the game. Qingdao Eagles had a 32-21 advantage in offensive rebounds. Liaoning Hunters were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was an exceptional evening for American swingman Tracy McGrady (203-79) who led the winners and scored 31 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. His fellow American import center Chris Daniels (211-84, college: Limoges) accounted for 24 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. Four Qingdao Eagles players scored in double figures. Qingdao Eagles' coach ZhengXiu Jiang allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Nigerian-American point guard Josh-Emmanuel Akognon (180-86, college: CS Fullerton) came up with 38 points (!!!) and forward TianJu He (203-90) added 22 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Liaoning Hunters in the defeat. The victory was the third consecutive win for Qingdao Eagles. They maintain seventeenth place with 5-17 record. Liaoning Hunters at the other side dropped to the fifth position with nine games lost. Qingdao Eagles will play against league's second-placed Beijing Ducks at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Liaoning Hunters will play against Xinjiang Flying Tige and will have a slim chance for a victory.
