The game in Thessaloniki was also quite interesting. 7th ranked Asteras (5-8) played at the court of eighth ranked Aris (6-7). Aris defeated Asteras 73-61 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 11-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 73-61. Aris dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Asteras' 24. Guard Roula Mouli (177-85) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 13 rebounds for the winners and guard Niki Hatzakou (175-82) chipped in 23 points (made all of her seven free throws). At the losing side forward Theodora Panteli (183-87, college: Binghamton) responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 16 rebounds and American forward Katerina Deli (168, college: Scranton) scored 13 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Aris moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Ikaros Kalitheas and Kronos AD. Loser Asteras dropped to the eighth position with eight games lost. They share it with Terpsithea. Aris will meet Olympiakos (#10) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Asteras' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Athens Panathinaikos.
