Halcones Xalapa had little problems en route the win in the opener versus Abejas. The game without a history. Halcones UV Xalapa led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Halcones UV Xalapa outrebounded Abejas 49-35 including a 24-12 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 34 assists comparing to just 21 passes made by Abejas' players. American guard LeRoy Hickerson (196-82, college: Cumberlands) fired 18 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. His fellow American import forward Devon Pearson (198-84, college: SMU) chipped in 19 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. American forward Eugene Phelps (198, college: Long Beach St.) produced a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!), 11 rebounds and 5 assists and American-Jamaican forward McHugh Mattis (198-84, college: S.Florida) added 14 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side. Five Halcones UV Xalapa and four Abejas players scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games.
