Regular Season Round 27: Meresta - Statyba 81-84

A very close game took place in Pakruojis between Statyba and Meresta. Seventh ranked Statyba (16-11) got a very close victory on the road over 9th ranked Meresta (14-13). Statyba managed to escape with a 3-point win 84-81 on Friday evening. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Meresta won third quarter 24-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was an exceptional evening for point guard Ovidijus Varanauskas (187-91) who led the winners and scored 24 points. Center Vitalijus Luksa (206-86) accounted for 14 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side. Statyba's coach Gintautas Regina used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Guard Tomas Gaidamavicius (191-82) came up with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists and guard Liudas Radavicius (188-88) added 20 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) respectively for Meresta in the defeat. Four Meresta players scored in double figures. Statyba moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Zalgiris-Sabonio. Loser Meresta dropped to the tenth position with 13 games lost. Statyba will meet at home Ezerunas-Karys (#15) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Meresta will play against Zanavykas (#8) in Sakiai and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
