There was an upset when 3rd placed Valencia Basket (12-7) was edged at home by fourteenth ranked UCAM Murcia (8-11) 96-94 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 1 point after three quarters before their 31-28 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Valencia Basket was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for American guard Matt Gatens (195-89, college: Iowa) who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points. Power forward Jose Angel Antelo (203-87) helped adding 14 points. At the losing side Serbian guard Stefan Markovic (194-88) responded with 15 points and 5 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and Brazilian center Vitor Faverani (211-88) scored 16 points and 5 rebounds. Four UCAM Murcia and five Valencia Basket players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. UCAM Murcia moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Unicaja. Valencia Basket lost third consecutive game. They keep the third position with seven games lost. UCAM Murcia will face higher ranked Blusens Monbus (#10) in Santoago de Comp in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Valencia Basket will play on the road against the league's second-placed Caja Laboral (#2) having rather not much hope for a victory.
