Regular Season Round 18: St Chamond - Rennes 83-72

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both fifteenth ranked Saint Chamond and 14th ranked Union Rennes had identical 4-11 record. This time Saint Chamond used a home court advantage and won against the opponent from Rennes 83-72 on Saturday night. The game was mostly controlled by Saint Chamond. Union Rennes managed to win second period 19-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Saint Chamond made 7 blocks. Forward Jean-Stephane Rinna (205-83) had a double-double by scoring 19 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 blocks (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) to lead the charge for the winners and Latvian swingman Ingus Bankevics (195-85, agency: Players Group) chipped in 22 points (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) during the contest. Four Saint Chamond players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was forward Omar Sall (195-80) with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 12 rebounds and Senegalese guard El Kabir Pene (190-84) scored 22 points. Union Rennes' coach tested ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Saint Chamond (5-11) moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Angers BC 49 and Challans. Union Rennes lost fifth consecutive game. Newly promoted Union Rennes dropped to the fifteenth position with 12 games lost. Saint Chamond will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Union Rennes will play against Souffelweyersheim (#5) in Souffel. and hope to secure a win.
