Regular Season Round 26: Windsor Exp. - London L. 99-93

Date: January 27, 2013
The Windsor Express are back on track. As Windsor welcomed the London Lightning, the team was hoping to bounce back after being derailed the past few games. And it did, by defeating the league’s top team. The Express walked off the court this afternoon with a 99-93 victory over the Lightning this afternoon, at the WFCU Centre. With the win, Windsor serves London only their fourth loss of the season. Chris Commons, Darren Duncan, Mike Helms and Kevin Loiselle kept the Express speeding forward. Commons scored 28 points, Duncan had 24 and Helms netted 16. Loiselle played a strong game, both offensively and defensively. He had 12 points and team-leading 14 rebounds. His efforts, along with those of his teammates, held London’s offense back to only a handful of leads throughout the game. Kevin Loiselle got things rolling for the Express in the first. Shortly after, Chris Commons came in with a head of steam. Though London caught up, Windsor kept control; the Express had 29-23 advantage after one. Back and forth, the teams nearly sank basket for basket. London’s fouls allowed Windsor to keep adding points, but the Lightning would catch up. Eventually, at the end of the half, they had a 53-50 lead over the Express. Windsor regrouped during halftime and came out ready for the third quarter. Early on, the Express took the lead, and didn’t look back after that. Scoring the second half’s first five points, they kept pressing. The Lightning got close again, but Windsor kept calm and maintained the upper hand heading into the fourth. Unfortunately, as the Lightning fought back into the game, Helms fouled out late in the game. London wasn’t ready to throw in the towel just yet – and neither was Windsor. Loiselle snatched some rebounds and pushed his team up the court. He also had a big block with time running out. From that block, the Lightning recovered and scored a timely 3-pointer, tying the game at 91 with 1:21 remaining. Nearly 700 fans were holding their breaths as the game’s intensity picked up. After a Windsor timeout, as the Express tried to inbound the ball, London’s DeAnthony Bowden was handed a technical foul. And Duncan took over. He ensured his team’s victory with two free throws and a basket with two foul shots. The Windsor Express earned a hard-fought win this afternoon, defeating the London Lightning 99-93.
