Regular Season Round 40: Azovmash - BC Donetsk 88-85

Very expected game in Mariupol where 9th ranked BC Donetsk (13-14) was edged by second ranked Azovmash (19-8) 88-85 on Friday. However just three-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 30-24. But BC Donetsk won second period 20-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Azovmash won last quarter 21-19. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Lynn Greer (186-79, college: Temple) who helped to win the game recording 21 points and 6 assists and the former international center Oleksiy Pecherov (213-85) who added 15 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. Four Azovmash players scored in double figures. At the losing side Lithuanian power forward Darius Songaila (204-78, college: Wake Forest, agency: Priority Sports) responded with 31 points and 6 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws) and FYR Macedonian guard Vojdan Stojanovski (194-87) scored 12 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Azovmash maintains second position with 19-8 record behind leader Budivelnyk. BC Donetsk lost third consecutive game. Defending champion dropped to the eighth place with 14 games lost.
