Regular Season Round 21: Bordeaux - Le Portel 68-65
Date: February 1, 2013
Bottom-ranked Bordeaux managed to get a third victory, breaking the series of ten consecutive loses on Friday night. This time they edged fifth-ranked Le Portel 68-65. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Le Portel. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 23-15. But Le Portel won second period 16-11. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. American power forward Nigel Wyatte (204-81, college: Wagner, agency: Court Side) stepped up and scored 17 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import forward Markel Humphrey (198-87, college: Marshall, agency: Three Eye Sports) chipped in 8 points and 7 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Jamaican-American Sherman Gay (201-82, college: Loyola Mary) with 22 points and 8 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) and American point guard Ronnie Taylor (188-81, college: NC-Greensboro, agency: Court Side) scored 11 points and 7 assists. Le Portel's coach Eric Girard tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Bordeaux maintains eighteenth place with 3-18 record. Loser Le Portel dropped to the third position with seven games lost. They share it with Antibes and Chalons-Reims. Bordeaux will meet higher ranked Chalons-Reims (#4) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Le Portel will play against the league's leader Pau-Lacq-Orthez where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
